More
durable. Silver is a soft metal, more easily bent or scratched
than most gold. The platinum adds a significant amount of hardness
to the silver and helps jewelry resist being scratched. Increased
hardness is most desirable for rings, which are subjected to
a great deal of abrasion with normal daily wear.
More
tarnish-resistant. Platinum doesn't tarnish. Copper does.
So an alloy without copper is going to maintain its luster longer.
Pt SS is estimated to be 7-8 times more tarnish resistant than
925 sterling. Tarnish resistance is good for any silver item,
but especially for pins, pendants, and earrings.
Very
bright. The copper in 925 sterling silver is, well, copper-colored.
Copper gives sterling a very slight off-white color. Platinum
is a white metal and keeps the silver as white as possible.
